Sweet Stuff

My daughter came to stay with us this past weekend. Though she has her own little uptown studio apartment, she still likes to come home and sleep in “her room”. It was Fathers Day weekend too. When she came to the door, she was holding a cake in one hand and a pastry box in the other.

It was Fathers Day weekend so she wanted to surprise her dad with a home made pound cake.

This was her first time making a pound cake. She did a great job and it turned out delicious.

She could resist bringing me a little treat too. I have been wanting to try a “Cruffin” from a place near her apartment. Cruffins are croissants baked in a muffin tin and rolled in cinnamon and sugar.

This Cruffin is strawberry cheesecake flavored. It had a cream cheese and strawberry filling and topped with a strawberry.
These things are out of this world. I may have to search how to make my own. Ya think?

We had a great Fathers Day. After my daughter spoiled her dad with cake and gifts, we headed off to church. My dad received the “Oldest Father” award this year. He had a good time accepting this award and made a couple funny comments.

Later that afternoon we headed down to Belmont to Dad and Moms house. My brothers and sister were there and we grilled hot dogs and hamburgers. We each brought something to make this dinner complete so Mom would not have to cook. Needless to say, she did end up making a blueberry dump cake and peach pie. Gotta love the sweet stuff.

Daddy Did You?

This is not deja vu. You may have read this one before.

Today is Fathers Day.

I'm sitting here thinking about my dad. How great a dad he is and how glad I'm his daughter. Shamefully, I also think about some of the ways I acted out and treated him in my rebellious years. I'd undo a lot of things I said and did in my teenage years. I thank him for his patience. He loves us all unconditionally and I never doubted he did.

Me and my sister were going through old photos and she came across this one.
Here is a picture of my dad in his 20's. Wow, he was so young. Isn't he good looking?
(He has that Clarke Gable look dontcha think?)

was not even a twinkle in his eye.

He was young and handsome (still is handsome, but old). He has so much life ahead of him here in this photo.
I wonder if hes happy how it all turned out? Would he do it all over again?

As I look at this photo (which I hope he don't mind me sharing), I cant help but think what he thought his future would hold. Did he know or even wish to be a father some day?

I stared at the photo for a long time while wondering what was on his mind back in those days.

DADDY DID YOU?

Did you ever think
you'd have four children?
Two boys two girls
two with straight hair
two with curls?

Did you ever wonder
of those four children?
Any idea at all?
Two would be lefties,
Two would be tall?

Did you imagine
Where they would work?
What they would become?
They will all have homes
and a good income.

Did it cross your mind
the emotions they would cause?
Without even trying
make you laugh
or leave you crying?

God knew before you
that you would be a Dad.
I'm thankful for this plan.
You gave us guidance
and we took your hand.

Soon we will be heading off to church to honor the fathers and praise the main Father up above.
Later the whole family will meet up for dinner at one of daddy's favorite pizza joints with the rest of the dads in the family and celebrate! The father job is hard and the good ones need to be praised.

Happy Fathers day!

Dad and I

Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there! I just want to say I think I have the best dad ever. He is a great christian man and is very special to me. My dad always set a godly example for me and my siblings and I am thankful for that. Ive learned alot from him and we are same in many ways. Here are just a few ways I am like him.
  •  We are funny and share the same humor.
  •  We like quick cars
  •   I have his nose
  •  We both suffer hay fever and allergies
  •  I have his knees
  •  We like blue grass music
  •  We are emotional
  •  Impatient
  •  If I'm not mistaking, I think we have the same birthmark
  •  and neither one of us will turn down a piece of chocolate cake.
I will be heading to church today and honor not only my father here on earth but also my heavenly father.
After church I will be spending time with my husband and daughter as we celebrate his well deserved fathers Day and later we will be celebrating all the dads in the family with a cookout at my house.
I smell the grill already!
Happy Fathers Day .

Strawberry Banana Nut Bread

Hope everyone is having a great week. I'm so ready for the weekend! Ive been kinda off my routine of dancing and feel like a blob. To make matters worst, I decided to bake some banana bread. Not just plain banana bread, but strawberry banana nut bread. I gave half the loaf to my dad because he loves sweet stuff and also so me and my husband aren't tempted to eat it all in one day which we have been known to do.

It takes an hour to bake one of these loaves, but that's ok with me because I love the way it makes my house smell. I made it the same way as I would make my momma's banana bread then I added a cup of fresh strawberries to the batter.

I was hoping it would turn a pretty pink, but little did I know, that strawberries will turn brown when mixed in a batter and baked. The strawberries gave it just the right flavor to know they were in there but did not over power the bananas.  It was "delizioso!"
